These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Benchscope and all associated services, including the directory, map, jobs board, insights content, and premium listings (together, the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. About Benchscope

Benchscope provides a curated directory and map of UK life sciences companies, a jobs board, editorial insights content, premium company profiles, and sponsorship opportunities. The Service is intended for discovery, research, recruitment and commercial purposes within the life sciences sector.

2. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

1. Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or its systems.
2. Disrupt, overload, or interfere with the Service (including via automated scraping, crawling, or bulk extraction of directory data).
3. Extract, re-utilise, scrape, copy, mirror or otherwise exploit all or any substantial part of the Benchscope database without our written permission.
4. Submit false claims, impersonate others, or misrepresent your affiliation with any company.
5. Upload or submit unlawful, infringing, defamatory, or harmful content.
6. Use the Service to violate applicable laws or regulations.

We may restrict or suspend access where we reasonably believe there is misuse, security risk, or breach of these Terms.

3. Listings, content, and accuracy

Listings and content on Benchscope may come from public sources, third parties, and/or submissions from companies or users. While we take care in sourcing and curating our data, and aim to keep information as accurate and up to date as possible, we cannot guarantee the completeness, accuracy, or fitness for any particular purpose of the information available through the Service.

You are responsible for exercising your own judgement and conducting appropriate due diligence before relying on any information from the Service for any consequential purpose - including but not limited to commercial decisions, reports, research, travel, or professional advice. Benchscope is a discovery and reference tool, not a verified authoritative source.

Verified badges indicate that a claim or review process has occurred in relation to a specific listing, and do not constitute an endorsement of a company, its products, or its services, nor a guarantee of the accuracy of any information displayed.

4. Claiming pages and amendments

If you claim a listing or request changes:

1. You must have legitimate authority or a genuine professional relationship with the company concerned.
2. You must ensure information you submit is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
3. We may request additional evidence to support a claim or amendment request.
4. We may accept, reject, or modify requests at our discretion to protect directory integrity and maintain consistent standards.

We may keep records of claims, amendment requests, verification checks and related correspondence. Where there is a dispute about who has authority to manage a listing, we may request further evidence, contact relevant parties, suspend or remove verification status, reverse or reject changes, or take any other reasonable steps to protect directory integrity.

We may share limited information about a claim or amendment request with representatives of the relevant company, such as the fact that a request was made, that it was submitted using an email address associated with the company's domain, the nature of the changes requested and the status of the review. We do not normally disclose the identity or direct contact details of the individual submitter unless we consider it necessary and lawful to do so.

5. Premium listings and paid services

Benchscope offers paid products including premium company profiles, founding partner packages, and category sponsorship. Where you purchase a paid product:

1. Payment terms, duration, and deliverables will be set out at the point of purchase or in a separate agreement.
2. We reserve the right to remove or suspend a paid listing where we reasonably believe it breaches these Terms or misrepresents information.
3. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed unless otherwise stated at the point of purchase or required by applicable law.
4. The same data accuracy disclaimer in section 3 applies equally to all tiers, including paid products.
5. Unless expressly stated in writing, paid products do not guarantee any particular number of views, clicks, enquiries, applications, leads, conversions or commercial outcomes.

6. Sponsored and paid placements

Benchscope may display sponsored, featured, promoted, partner or paid placements within the Service. Where content or placement is paid for, we will identify it in a way that is reasonably clear to users. Sponsored or paid placement does not affect our right to edit, reject or remove content to maintain directory standards.

7. Jobs board

Employers and recruiters may submit job listings to the Benchscope jobs board. By submitting a listing:

1. You confirm that the role is genuine and that you have authority to post it.
2. You grant Benchscope a licence to display the listing on the Service for the duration of its active period.
3. We reserve the right to remove listings that are inaccurate, misleading, or in breach of these Terms.
4. We are not responsible for the accuracy of job listings or for any aspect of the recruitment process.

8. User-submitted content and assets

When you submit content to Benchscope - including edits, company information, job listings or other materials - you grant Benchscope a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, display, reproduce, adapt and incorporate that content into the Service for the purpose of operating, promoting and improving Benchscope. You confirm that you have the right to submit the content and that it does not infringe the rights of any third party.

Where you submit a logo, image, document or brand asset, you confirm that you have authority to provide it and grant Benchscope permission to display it in connection with the relevant listing or paid product.

9. Uploaded documents and resources

Premium profile users may be able to upload or submit documents or resources for display on Benchscope, including brochures, white papers, application notes, research papers, reports, case studies or similar materials.

By uploading or submitting any document or resource, you confirm that:

1. you have the right and authority to submit it for display on Benchscope;
2. its publication on Benchscope will not infringe any copyright, trade mark, confidentiality, privacy, data protection, contractual or other third-party rights;
3. it does not contain unlawful, defamatory, misleading, harmful, confidential or inappropriate material;
4. it does not contain malicious code, viruses or other material intended to damage, interfere with or gain unauthorised access to any system, data or service;
5. any claims made in the document are accurate to the best of your knowledge and are not misleading.

You grant Benchscope a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display, reproduce, make available and promote the uploaded document or resource in connection with the relevant listing, paid product or Service.

We may review, reject, remove, restrict access to or replace uploaded documents or resources at our discretion, including where we believe they may breach these Terms, create legal or security risk, misrepresent information, fall outside the scope of Benchscope or affect the quality or integrity of the Service.

The number, size, type and format of uploaded documents may be limited by the relevant paid product, technical requirements or Benchscope’s publishing standards.

Benchscope is not responsible for the content, accuracy, legality or suitability of uploaded documents or resources submitted by users, companies, employers, recruiters or third parties.

10. Takedowns and correction requests

If you believe a listing contains inaccurate, infringing, misleading or otherwise inappropriate material, you may contact us at privacy@benchscope.com with details of your concern. We may investigate and amend, remove or retain content at our discretion. We aim to respond to legitimate requests promptly.

11. Intellectual property

The Benchscope brand, site design, taxonomy, curation methodology, and original content are owned by or licensed to Benchscope Ltd. You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute these materials without our written permission, except as permitted by law.

Company names, trademarks, and logos are the property of their respective owners and are referenced for identification purposes only.

12. Third-party links

The Service may link to third-party websites (for example, company websites or external resources). We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, policies, or practices of any third-party sites.

13. Privacy and cookies

Our collection and use of personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, which are available on our website.

14. Disclaimers

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

In particular, we make no warranty that information on the Service - including company details, map locations, contact information, or any other data - is accurate, current, or suitable for any specific use. Users who rely on Benchscope data for consequential decisions do so at their own risk.

15. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law. Nothing in these Terms affects any statutory rights that cannot be excluded by law.

Subject to the above, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, Benchscope will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or business opportunity arising from or related to your use of the Service or reliance on any information obtained through it.

This includes, without limitation, any loss arising from reliance on inaccurate company information, incorrect map data, or any other content available through the Service.

To the extent our liability may lawfully be limited, our total aggregate liability will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid to us for the Service in the 12 months prior to the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) £100.

16. Changes to the Service

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service at any time. We may also update these Terms from time to time by posting the updated version on this page and revising the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

17. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction over any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service.
